From Bucharest

By Train (Recommended)

The CFR Intercity and Regio services run from Gara de Nord (Bucharest's main station) to Sinaia roughly every 1–2 hours throughout the day. The journey takes 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours on faster services. Tickets cost approximately 30–50 RON (~$7–$11) each way depending on the service class.

Buy tickets at the station windows (cash), from CFR Călători vending machines, or online at cfrcalatori.ro. Seat reservations are recommended on Intercity trains at weekends.

From Sinaia station, Peleș Castle is 2km uphill. A taxi takes 5 minutes and costs around 15–20 RON. You can also walk: the road climbs steadily through the town and takes about 25 minutes at a normal pace. Wear comfortable shoes — the incline is real.

By Car

Take DN1 (E60) north from Bucharest through Ploiești and up the Prahova Valley. The drive is approximately 120km and takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Note that the DN1 through the valley can be slow on summer weekends.

There is no parking immediately at the castle. Park in Sinaia town (paid parking near the casino area) and walk up, or use the road that winds up closer to the castle — but spaces are limited and often full by 10 AM in summer. Walking from town is the more reliable option.

By Guided Tour from Bucharest

Several private and group tours depart Bucharest daily, combining Peleș with other stops. The advantage is door-to-door transport, included entry, and a guide — no navigation or parking to worry about.

From Brașov

By Train (Easiest Option)

Brașov to Sinaia is one of the most convenient short rail journeys in Romania. Trains run frequently and the trip takes 50 to 65 minutes, costing around 20–30 RON (~$5–$7) each way. Buy tickets at Brașov station or online.

From Sinaia station, the castle is 2km uphill — taxi (15–20 RON) or 25-minute walk.

By Car

Take DN1 south from Brașov. The 45km drive takes about 45 minutes in normal traffic, or up to 75 minutes in peak summer weekend conditions. Parking situation same as above.

3 Castles Day Tour from Brașov

The most popular guided option from Brașov combines Peleș with Bran Castle and Cantacuzino in a single day — all transport and entries included.

From Sinaia Town to the Castle

Once you're in Sinaia, there are two options to reach the castle from the train station:

On foot (25 min): Walk along Strada Octavian Goga and then up through the park. The path is uphill throughout. Comfortable footwear recommended — you'll be standing on stone for several hours after this.
Taxi (5 min, ~15–20 RON): Taxis are available outside the station. Agree the fare before getting in or ensure the meter is running. Most drivers know the castle well.
💡 Pro tip If you're combining Peleș with Pelișor Castle (300m away on the same grounds), budget at least a half-day in total. Take the train from Bucharest or Brașov, spend 3–4 hours at the castles, have lunch in Sinaia town, and train back in the afternoon. It's a very clean day out with no car needed.
